Scott Kaplan, PhD
Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department at the United States Naval Academy. I received my PhD from the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at UC Berkeley.
I am an applied microeconomist interested in studying consumer behavior with the goal of informing public policy. Much of my current research examines applications featuring risky or addictive behavior. I have published and in-progress work examining sin taxes and their design (with a particular focus on sugar-sweetened beverage taxes), the effect of non-instrumental information on consumer attention, and delayed punishment schemes for aggressive behavior.
In my free time I enjoy cooking, reading science fiction, tennis, and skiing.
